To schedule your first appointment you can call personally at our offices or contact the Counselling Unit Intake Officer and we will guide you through the procedure.

You will be given an appointment within a few days for an intake session. This intake session lasts for about 30 minutes. Here the Intake Session Sheet [PDF] will be filled, and:
  • the nature of the issue presented will be identified
  • the situation will be assessed
  • the Client Agreement Form [PDF] will be presented and the procedures of the counselling unit will be explained
  • questions related to the services offered will be clarified.

At the end of this session, you will be given the first available appointment with a professional. If this is not possible, you will be registered on our waiting list and you will be contacted as soon as an appointment becomes available. During the intake session, you can indicate whether you prefer to work with a male or a female, however you cannot attend counselling with someone who is also your lecturer/tutor. If one is already established with a therapist outside the University of Malta Counselling Unit, he/she is automatically not eligible to attend for the intake session. This is an ethical requirement by all counselling services professionals (according to all professional bodies) in order to safeguard one from confusion or conflict of interest.
