The M.A. by research in Anglo-Italian studies offers you the opportunity to conduct research in the field of Anglo-Italian cultural relations, with special reference to language and literature. This is a diverse and rich area of interest, drawing in international conferences and seminars. While it concerns the vast world of literary works involving the two cultures, from travel writing to poetry translations, you will be encouraged to come up with a unique topic of research that might bring a work or works of art of your choosing in new light under the lens of Anglo-Italian relations. We offer this postgraduate degree if you are interested in language and literature, especially where the two cultures meet, and to prepare you to write high-quality research papers in this interdisciplinary field of studies.
The Course shall be open to applicants in possession of one of the following qualifications:
(a) the degree of Bachelor of Arts (Honours) with Second Class or better in the same or in a closely related area of study as the area of study applied for, provided that the Board may consider applicants in possession of the Degree with Third Class Honours only if it is satisfied that such applicants are in possession of other qualifications, including relevant experience, obtained following the first cycle degree or
(b) the degree of Bachelor of Arts in the same or in a closely related area of study as that applied for, with an average mark of not less than 55% in that area or
(c) a degree from this or from another university which the Board considers as comparable to any of the degrees indicated in paragraphs (a) and (b) above. This comparability may, in exceptional cases, extend to applicants proposing a research topic which in itself bridges the area of study of the first degree and the one being applied for. In such cases, applicants would be required to attend an interview to assess their suitability, in accordance with procedures established by the Board.
In the case of a mainly research course, applicants in possession of a degree with Third Class Honours or Category III and those admitted under paragraphs (b) and if necessary (c) shall be required to complete a preparatory programme, comprising not less than 30 and not more than 60 ECTS credits as directed by the Board, with an overall average mark of 55% or better, prior to their registration as regular students on the Course. The number of credits included in the preparatory programme will be determined by the Board.
The admission requirements are applicable for courses commencing in February 2022.

The course is intended if you are interested in the language, literature and culture of the two countries, and would like to gain a holistic and academic understanding of the subject for better career prospects and a better appreciation of the area.
As a graduate in the MA in Anglo-Italian Studies, you will be able to enter a career, both locally and abroad, as a teacher, writer, journalist, researcher and academic. You will also possess transferable skills that will allow you to enter careers in managerial and administrative positions. The option of pursuing a doctorate with the Faculty of Arts in the University of Malta, or in a foreign institution abroad, is also available if you are interested in furthering your studies.
