The Master of Advocacy degree provides a comprehensive knowledge of and training in core legal subjects of a procedural nature. The main areas covered during the taught component include Civil Procedure, Constitutional and Human Rights Procedure, Criminal Procedure, EU Procedure whilst the professional practice component is intended to prepare students for the profession of advocate emphasising more practical studies ranging from moot courting to professional ethics.

The Course shall be open to applicants in possession of:

(a) the degree of Bachelor of Laws (Honours) – LL.B. (Hons) – from this University with at least Second Class Honours or

(b) the Diploma of Notary Public – N.P. – from this University.

Requires the submission of a Police Certificate of Conduct.

The admission requirements are applicable for courses commencing in October 2021.

By the end of the course, the students will be able to:

(a) learn by doing, thereby acquiring knowledge through experiential learning;
(b) write about and explain the law of procedure;
(c) reflect upon the implications of advice given and propose a course of action in a simulated environment;
(d) acquire various legal skills such as research skills, communication skills, interviewing skills, and legal drafting skills;
(e) participate in simulation exercises;
(f) advice on the law of procedure.
This course is specifically intended for those persons who intend to sit for the bar exam to practice the profession of advocate.
This degree programme leads to the career of an Advocate. For an Advocate to be eligible to sit for the bar exam, s/he should be in possession of the Master of Advocacy degree.
