The Masters programme allows for students to undertake a Distributed Ledger Technologies research project from a Legal, Business or IT perspective or their intersection. Students are typically required to survey the specific area of focus, after which their research focus will be on furthering the state of the art within the specific focus of their research project. Students will be required to register for a research methods unit in aim of facilitating the research process.

The Course shall be open to applicants in possession of a Bachelor degree from this University with at least Second Class (Honours) or Category II in the areas of Business, Economics, Finance, Law, Management, Information Technology, or in any other area which the Board deems appropriate.

Applicants in possession of a Bachelor degree from this University with Third Class Honours or Category III in the disciplines highlighted in the above paragraph may apply if they are also in possession of other qualifications or have at least five years of relevant work experience, obtained following the first cycle degree. The admission of applicants under this paragraph may be made conditional on the results of an assessment as the Board may deem appropriate.

The admission requirements are applicable for courses commencing in February 2019.

By the end of the course, the students will be able to:
- compare, contrast and analyse academic material in relation to their chosen specialisation
- demonstrate the ability to critique, and present applications of research in the field as presented through academic material published in peer reviewed venues.
- appreciate and describe the multi-disciplinary area and how the various areas compliment and integrate together
- demonstrate acquired expertise, rationale behind a hypothesis and originality of proposed work, and scientifically defend a proposed approach.

Students participating in this programme will gain the following subject knowledge and understanding of:
a) what blockchain and DLTs are,
b) their functionality and implementation details,
c) and how they can decentralise applications;
d) and the state of the art within their area of focus.

Intellectually, skills gained by the students include:
a) critical thinking (ability to read, assess, contrast and criticize academic literature)
b) academic project methodology including design, implementation and evaluation

Key/transferable skills gained by students include:
a) academic reading and writing
b) orally present material, to an intelligent lay audience
c) organise a bibliography (develop bibliographic skills)
d) experience in a cross-disciplinary environment
e) undertake rigorous, original and valid research

Many of these skills are industry relevant and increase the student's employability.
This programme of study is intended for students having backgrounds in Law, Business or Technology to undertake a research project which looks into a multi-disciplinary aspect of Blockchain and DLTs -- intersecting anywhere between the aforementioned disciplines.
The course will prepare students looking to work in various related industries, depending upon their area of specialization, including but not limited to: Blockchain, Distributed Ledger Technologies, Smart Contracts, related FinTech, RegTech, Financial Services and Legal Services and other industries making use of DLTs.
