Applicants must be in possession of:

  1. a Bachelor's degree obtained with at least Second Class Honours in an area of study deemed suitable by the Board or
  2. a degree from this or another university which the Board considers as comparable to the degree indicated in paragraph (a).

Applicants may be required to provide evidence of being in possession of the licence to practice in the register of the profession concerned, as kept by the relevant regulatory council.

Applicants may be required to provide evidence of work experience following registration with the relevant regulatory council in the proposed area of study or area of specialisation, if applicable. The minimum number of years of experience required shall be indicated at the time of the call for applications.

The Course is limited to a maximum of 10 students.

The M.Sc. in Radiography (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) is a taught postgraduate route which will equip you with the appropriate knowledge and skills to become an advanced practitioner in radiography. The course is composed to offer you a theory, research and practice-based understanding of radiography, ranging from research methods to clinical practice. By the end of the course, you will have gained enough knowledge to carry out a research-based dissertation sufficient to be published to existing literature in radiography.

This programme of study is governed by the General Regulations for University Postgraduate Award, 2021 and by the Bye-Laws for the award of Master of Science - M.Sc. - in under the auspices of the Faculty of Health Sciences.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Differentiate between a range of social science research designs.
  • Appraise the general structure and function of the MRI device including user settings for image acquisition and spatial encoding.
  • Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of high field MRI and its application in both biomedical research and cardiac and vascular imaging.
  • Identify and evaluate sources and opportunities for work-based learning to further develop radiographers’ knowledge and professional expertise.
  • Analyse and appraise the impact of developments within clinical MRI in imaging the trunk and musculoskeletal system.
  • Write a paper for publication.

As a holder of the M.Sc. in Radiography (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), you will be prepared to enter your chosen field as an advanced practitioner in the public or private sector, possessing a higher level of clinical responsibility and patient management.

You may choose to specialise in a specific area of radiography that is of interest to you. The option of furthering your academic knowledge and research will also be available by enrolling in a doctorate programme offered by the University of Malta or a foreign institution abroad.
