Applicants in terms of the 'maturity (adult learners) clause' are required to sit for an interview, held on a date which will be announced in due course. Once announced, this date cannot be changed. The closing date for receipt of applications from applicants in terms of the 'maturity (adult learners) clause' is 31 August 2024 at 2pm.

Applicants may also be required to submit a Learning Portfolio. Further information about the Portfolio will be forwarded to applicants.

The programme of study in French at an undergraduate level will give you an academic lens of the history, culture, language and literature of France. During the course we will instil within you a deep appreciation towards the language in both a linguistic and Literary perspective, as we will help you refine and hone your spoken, auditory and reading prowess in the language. By understanding the influence that the language and nation has had on an international level through the eyes of authors, poets, and countries, you will be more au courante with the history that the contemporary country holds onto and upholds. We also encourage you to participate in the Erasmus+ mobility programme for a multicultural and diversified learning journey.

The programme of study in Italian will give you an academic perspective of the language, literature and culture of the Mediterranean country. Being an important historical country, it is inevitable that it has been influential in a variety of ways. During the course we will broaden your literary horizons with a keen focus on Dante Alighieri's Epic poetry, along with other notable Roman and Italian figures who have contributed to its national literature. Apart from studying modern and contemporary Italian literature in its visual mediums, we will also refine your morphological, syntactical and lexical abilities in the target language. We also encourage you to participate in our Erasmus+ mobility programme for a diversified and multicultural academic experience.


Communication and Academic Skills Programme

The communication and academic skills programme complements students’ main course of study. It introduces them to writing and presenting as situated within academic contexts sensitive to specific disciplines and develops their competences for future careers.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Read, write and speak fluently in French.
  • Recall important literary and linguistic theories in relation to their publications.
  • Have a refined understanding of the history, society and culture of France, and its impact on an international level.
  • Engage in critical discussions in an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary manner.
  • Carry out and conduct academic research related to the subject matter.

Italian

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Conduct professional critical academic research in a professional manner carried out in the target language.
  • Contribute to Italian literary discussions in an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary discursive atmosphere.
  • Refer to your oral, written and auditory faculties in the target language on an intermediate or native-like level.
  • Recall important historical events and key-literary, artistic and political Italian figures.
  • Have a diverse and deep appreciation of Italian literary culture.
