Knowledge and Information Management

Knowledge and Information Management is offered as a joint area of study together with a main area of study. You will gain knowledge and skills from a variety of compulsory and elective units. These range from; Libraries and Documentary Heritage, Information Theories, Archival Descriptions and Collection Development, to Globalised Dimension of Archives, Research Methods, Advanced Archival Description and Library Services to Children and Young Adults. In the final semester, the knowledge and skills gained will be demonstrated in a set of synoptic examinations, in which the topics learned will culminate.


Social Studies

In the programme of study in Social Studies, we provide you with a transdisciplinary holistic approach towards the field and its means of integration in the modern world we inhabit. By taking a local and international perspective, you will learn about the interrelating and causal relationship between geography, history, political and social science and the humanities in our society. You will be integrated in a broad spectrum of fields and will acquire knowledge on areas ranging from bioethics and warfare to anthropology of migration and cultural criticism. We also encourage you to participate in the Erasmus+ mobility programme for a more diverse and multicultural learning experience.


Communication and Academic Skills Programme

The communication and academic skills programme complements students’ main course of study. It introduces them to writing and presenting as situated within academic contexts sensitive to specific disciplines and develops their competences for future careers.

Knowledge and Information Management

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Distinguish between different repositories of published and unpublished knowledge.
  • Decide the best standards to be used in compiling different archival descriptions.
  • the way information centres differ from the traditional library environments.
  • Describe the major organisational networks available for international collaboration in the archivesҠworld.
  • Comprehend the differences in terms of bibliographic description between a monograph and other media found in a collection.
  • Demonstrate the ability to consider separate knowledge as part of a larger whole.

Social Studies

Upon successfully completing this course, you will be able to:

  • Carry out research and write academic essays through your refined use of critical thought and methodological research skills.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary discussions and contribute your unique knowledge on the subject matter with your heightened capacity of problem-solving, critical thought and performative skills.
  • Recall historical events, key figures and theoretical concepts, theories and criticisms respective of the field of study or area at hand.
  • Have a better understanding of human behaviour in its relation to social phenomena and institutions.
  • Apply your theoretical knowledge of the subject matter on contemporary issues, both local and international.

As a graduate with a joint area course, you will be able to use the transferable skills gained from knowledge and information management to provide an informed analysis, evaluation, and insight for the organisation or private/public company that you will be employed in. While not directly preparing you for a specific career, knowledge and information management as a joint area will make you a more attractive employee, widening your career possibilities. You may also choose to enrol in a masters' programme both locally or internationally of your choice, provided that the necessary admission requirements are met.

As a graduate in this programme of study you will have career opportunities, both locally and internationally, as a sociologist, historian, teacher, political scientist, market research analyst and human resources officer.
