The Certificate Course may be taken concurrently with any University undergraduate or postgraduate course, whether followed on a full-time or part-time basis.

This course is open to both University of Malta current students and General Public.

Applications for our February and October intakes have been officially open since the third week in November. You can submit your application online. The deadlines for submission of applications vary according to the intake and courses. We encourage all international applicants to submit their applications as soon as possible. This is especially important if you require a visa to travel and eventually stay in Malta.

This Certificate in Language Proficiency in Italian will cover the six levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, from the basic user (A1, A2) to the proficient one (C1, C2). The demand for Modern Language learning, in this case Italian, has lately increased. The certificate course in Italian is also in line with recent education policies on multilingualism to offer you modern language courses at certificate and diploma levels.

Requirement for award of Certificate in Language Proficiency (Italian): 30 ECTS credits

This programme of study is governed by the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, 2019 and by the Bye-Laws for the award of the Certificate in Language Proficiency and the Diploma in Language Proficiency under the auspices of the Faculty of Arts.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate your knowledge in Italian language and civilisation.
  • Read and create different typology of texts and participate in conversations.
  • Converse in Italian in accordance to CEFR levels ranging from A1 to C2.
  • Refer to your wide knowledge of vocabulary, grammar and syntax, including useful stylistics nuances.
  • Appraise Italian culture and civilisation in order to explore it further and to develop the necessary communicative competences in peer-group interaction.
  • Autonomously construct coherent texts that will enhance your reading and listening skills.
