Information for International applicants

The Course shall be open to applicants in possession of:

  1. six passes at grade 5 or better at Secondary Education Certificate Level, including Maltese, English Language, Mathematics and a science subject or
  2. a diploma obtained from the College of Agriculture of the Department of Education with a grade of merit or better, or a similar qualification which, in the opinion of the Board, is equivalent to this qualification.

Applications for our February and October intakes have been officially open since the third week in November. You can submit your application online. The deadlines for submission of applications vary according to the intake and courses. We encourage all international applicants to submit their applications as soon as possible. The Preparatory Course is a one-year day course focusing on agricultural Biology and Chemistry. You will be introduced in rural sciences and be considered as probationary students. By studying for this preparatory course, you will learn about the basic science, concepts and practice of farming and cultivation, which will serve as the foundation for the Diploma itself. Topics covered range from principles of agricultural chemistry, agricultural systematics and agricultural biotechnology, to agricultural biochemistry, applied agricultural biotechnology and anatomy and physiology of crops.

Students who successfully complete the one-year preparatory programme will progress to the Diploma in Agriculture.

Requirements for regular progression to the Diploma in Agriculture: 60 ECTS credits

This programme of study is governed by the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, 2019 and by the Bye-Laws for the award of the Diploma in Agriculture - Dip. Agric. - under the auspices of the Institute of Earth Systems .

By the end you will be able to:

  • Follow the Diploma Course with the necessary foundational knowledge.
  • Understand the science behind rural activities.
  • Present a short report on an agricultural topic.
  • Deliver a presentation on an agricultural topic.
  • Research about agriculture and understand the basic principles.

Total Tuition Fees: Eur 10,800
