The overall aim of the B.Sc. (Hons.) in Nursing programme (Part-Time Day) is to prepare first-level nurses who are able to provide effective evidence-based patient-centered care. This course aims to provide students with an understanding of nursing's distinct knowledge base as well as knowledge derived from the other social and life sciences. It also aims to equip students with the ability to perform the required clinical skills competently and in full knowledge of the current evidence. It is in view of this that this course comprises both theoretical and practical components, with a diversified content that is designed to develop the students' ability to draw upon the various types of knowledge, the appropriate skills and an understanding of an individual's personal wishes, to guide the appropriate nursing action in a variety of settings.
This part-time programme runs over five years and aims to target students who are unable to follow a full-time programme because of other commitments. In addition to a similar aim to the full-time course, the BSc. (Hons.) in Nursing (Part-Time Day) further shares the same intended learning outcomes and conforms to the European Union Directives on Nursing Education and secures recognition as a first level nurse across EU member states.
Communication and Academic Skills Programme
The communication and academic skills programme complements students’ main course of study. It introduces them to writing and presenting as situated within academic contexts sensitive to specific disciplines and develops their competences for future careers.
