DESCRIPTION This study-unit exposes students to effective pedagogies of teaching and learning languages and literacy in adult-learning and lifelong learning contexts. Students will engage with updated language and literacy learning strategies through a hands-on and critical approach.

The study-unit also exposes students to effective digital resources used in language and literacy teaching and learning, particularly in adult-learning and lifelong learning contexts.

Study-Unit Aims:

This study-unit aims to:

- update students with effective teaching and learning strategies used with adults learning languages and literacy;
- help students become familiar with language and literacy digital resources, particularly those that suit best adult learning and lifelong learning contexts; and
- raise awareness on the resources that are required to be effective during language and literacy lessons, particularly in adult learning and lifelong learning contexts.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Restate main tenets of principal theories, paradigms and pedagogies concerning language and literacy teaching and learning, particularly those relevant to adult learning and lifelong learning; and
- List teaching and learning resources (including digital resources) that would be conducive to effective teaching and learning in a given adult / lifelong learning context.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Critically analyze the relevance of select theories, paradigms and pedagogies in a given adult language and literacy teaching and learning context;
- Critically assess the deployment of given resources (including digital resources) in a given adult language and literacy teaching and learning context; and
- Develop basic but effective teaching and learning resources for a a given adult language and/or literacy teaching and learning context.
