TITLE Grammar of Photography

DESCRIPTION This study unit focuses on the student’s ability to articulate concepts and ideas through the production of a photographic project, critical reflection on the work of other photographers, and understanding of photography through the framework of contemporary art and visual communication.

Study-Unit Aims:

• To engage with photography as a contemporary art.
• To pursue a self-directed photographic project from initiation to the presentation of the work.
• To articulate ideas through the critical comparison with the work of other photographers.
• To improve the ability to communicate concepts and ideas.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
• To generate a creative dialogue from initiation of the project, to the presentation of the work.
• To create and present visual narratives that reveal or question, challenge or provoke.
• To discuss photography curatorial practices and enhance the impact of personal projects through exhibition display.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
• Present a final work, or a work in progress. A visual narrative consisting of a series of images, an artist statement to accompany the work, and an exhibition proposal.
