DESCRIPTION This study-unit is suitable for students who have completed the study-units related to Chinese Language (1, 2 and 3) or who have the equivalent knowledge of these study-units. This unit is designed to prepare students to be more confident in their skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing. The students will be able to understand longer texts, and to communicate with native speakers.

Students will also learn to write paragraphs using vocabulary and more complicated structures.

Class discussion will be held in Chinese, and Chinese culture will also be dealt with in greater depth.

Study-unit Aims

This study-unit aims to assist the student in:

1. learning another 400 (or more) commonly used Chinese Characters.
2. learning 700 (or more) compound words of essential vocabulary.
3. obtaining the freedom to develop their specialized vocabulary depending on their interests.
4. developing the skills needed to gather information from authentic sources in Chinese.
5. being acquainted with aspects of Chinese culture and society related to the course materials.

Learning Outcomes

1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

1) recognize and correctly write a further 400 (or more) Chinese characters.
2) develop a vocabulary of another 700 (or more) compound words and frequently used phrases.
3) comprehend more Chinese etiquette and customs related to the course content.
4) achieve the level of HSK-4.

2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

1) make a close reading of texts .
2) develop a greater attention to detail.
3) learn to dialogue better.
4) appreciate better other cultures.
