DESCRIPTION Students need to engage in an empirical research study under supervision. A student’s dissertation will comprise a literature review, data collection, and analysis and the writing up of a manuscript to report rigorously the research study, results and a relevant discussion including limitations of the study and recommendations for further research. Their work will be supervised by an academic supervisor. Their work will be presented as their dissertation.

Study-unit Aims:

The aim of the study unit is to provide the students with an opportunity to engage in a research exercise under the supervision of an academic supervisor.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Develop an understanding of the research process as well as appreciate ethical issues in health care research.

2. Skills:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Conduct a small scale research project and write up a full report of the study including an analysis of the results obtained following data collections as well as a discussion which encompasses the limitations of the study and recommendations for further research.
