DESCRIPTION This study-unit will explore the ability of sequential images as medium to craft stories and their use in storyboarding and the graphic novel. Students will be led to use the formats of the graphic novel and the storyboard to create sequences that not only make narrative sense, but also go beyond storytelling and into the creative visual production. While relating to historical examples, the students will work in a variety of media which include traditional and digital to explore contemporary styles of sequential artmaking.

Study-unit Aims:

- To deepen students’ knowledge and skills in drawing, perspective, design, color, typography, writing, editing, and acting;
- To get students to work on both storyboard and graphic novel formats;
- To enhance students’ ability in visualising narrative;
- To place students in a realistic production environment.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will:
- become proficient in the creation of storyboards and sequential visual narrative;
- become familiar with working across media;
- become familiar with interpreting textual narrative into original and creative visuals.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will:
- be able to create original and creative storyboards and graphic novels that communicate story through original aesthetics;
- be able to understand and creatively interpret the processes of translation of text to image;
- be able to work across media.
