DEPARTMENT Doctoral School

DESCRIPTION
The EU Horizon 2020 programme is the largest funding opportunity open to University of Malta researchers. A key programme aim is to embed RRI (Responsible Research and Innovation) in research and research institutions. Incorporating the concept is essential to receive funding. But what is RRI? How can it be incorporated into your research? And how can your grant applications be written and designed in such a way that your chances of success are increased? This workshop will be split into two parts. The first part will briefly introduce the concept of RRI, dialogue, stakeholder theory, and other key ideas to maximise impact. These will be followed by case studies, some provided by invited speakers, to show best practices in designing Work Packages and incorporating RRI into the research process. Ideas will be discussed over coffee. In the second part of this workshop, a “world café” session will provide space for participants to brainstorm how to incorporate RRI into their own research and project writing, with time for feedback on their ideas.

Outcomes:

By the end of this workshop, the doctoral researcher should be able to:

- understand the concept of RRI
- understand its implications on the researcher’s work
- creatively incorporate the concept of RRI into his/her own work
- change his/her research process and writing in the hope of increasing grant application/project writing success
