DESCRIPTION The study-unit focuses on the E.U.’s transport policy, including road and rail transport, maritime and aviation transport. The study-unit provides a historic development of the EU Transport Policy with the background context of Treaty development and Enlargement. Besides a thorough overview of the relevant acquis, case law is also discussed and its contribution to the development of the EU Transport Policy analyzed. The relevant ‘packages’ of measures are also studied in their international context.

Learning Outcomes:

The aim of the study-unit is to provide students with a sound basis of EU Transport law for all the three major modes, and in the major areas of concern of the acquis, that is internal market completion; safety measures and standards; consumer protection; efficiency and environmental concerns. The study-unit also empowers the student to discuss the present challenges, appreciate the constraints in resolving problems. Through reference to current developments in the field, students are made aware of decisions taken at a European level taken to address transport related issues.
