DESCRIPTION A series of seminars based on a paper or group of papers distributed a week before to the students with a set of questions. The class is expected to discuss the topic given. This is an advanced unit where the development issues are tackled from an applied perspective.
Concurrently a number of lectures on development issues are also given as supplementary.

Study-unit Aims:

Fourth year students are put into real life situations where policy development decisions based on applied studies have to be taken.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

Knowledge about the poor and developing countries, Distinguish between the problems related to emerging economies and those of the very poor. Understand the problems faced by economists working in this field.

2. Skills:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

Apply economic theory to situations where the social, political and institutional issues play a major role.
