Study-Unit Description

CODE FRE3011

TITLE Études thématiques littéraires

UM LEVEL 03 - Years 2, 3, 4 in Modular Undergraduate Course

MQF LEVEL Not Applicable

ECTS CREDITS 6

Learning Outcomes:

- The student will be exposed to knowledge of particular texts that he studied during the three year degree course;
- The student will tackle a synoptic theme;
- The student will see a link between literary works that may pertain to different genres and belonging to different historical periods;
- The student will be able to see those issues which have preoccupied the human mind since the birth of civilization and realized that literature is a unifying force in manking;
- The synoptic essay prepares the student to embark upon more complex academic tasks like writing a thesis.

Bibliography:

- Bergez, D., Méthodes critiques pour l’analyse littéraire, Armand Colin, 2010.
- Montalbetti, C., La Fiction, Flammarion, 2001.
- Peureux, G., Analyser les vers, Gallimard, 2004.
- Toursel, N., Vassevière, J., Littérature : textes théoriques et critiques, Armand Colin, 2010.
- Schaeffer, J.-M., Qu’est-ce qu’un genre littéraire?, Seuil, 1989.

ADDITIONAL NOTES Pre-requisite:

The synoptic test is the final component of the degree course. Whereas before, the student was tested on a particular text or texts, now he will have to reflect on a theme embracing literature of 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.
