DESCRIPTION This study-unit consists of mentored student visits in different health promotion and public health environments within the community or healthcare related settings as selected by the Coordinators.

Settings include areas related to health promotion and public health practice, other healthcare settings (such as in areas relating to breastfeeding clinics, eating disorders facilities) , and other relevant areas relating to nutrition practice.

Study-unit Aims:

To provide students with a reflective experience that will complement the first study-unit in this series (Professional Practice) which is held during the first year of studies and will allow the students to engage in public health settings so as to provide them with the necessary hands on skills for their future profession.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Observe, interact and ultimately, report on this team work within an interdisciplinary scenario in different placements in the health promotion and public health setting;
- Demonstrate an understanding of the professional code of practice for nutritionists, the skills required for this profession and required behaviour;
- Gain an understanding of the professional code of practice for nutritionists, the skills required for this profession and required behaviour.

2. Skills
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Analyse situations, develop thinking skills and communication skills, within the particular setting;
- Translate the health promotion knowledge theory gained in the first year into effective practice; and
- Organise and maintain a reflective portfolio on the placement experiences and guided learning presenting recommendations for public health.

Reading material for effective reflective report writing will be provided by Coordinator or Mentors.
