DESCRIPTION The study unit provides students with basic knowledge and experience of Geographic Information Systems in Transport. Students will learn about GIS, its basic concepts and applicability in the various areas of transport. Examples in practical lab sessions will provide students with building blocks of how to apply GIS in the transportation sector.

- to provide an understanding of Geographic Information (GI)
- to provide an understanding of the concepts of Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- apply GIS in transport

Learning Outcomes

1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- understand what GIS is and how it can be applied
- apply a basic example in transport GIS

2. Skills (including transferable [generic] skills): By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- manage Geographic Information
- apply GIS in transport
