DESCRIPTION The study-unit will seek to develop in students an understanding of the roles of health care professionals working with older persons within a geriatric team. The rationale and composition of interdisciplinary geriatric teams will be highlighted. Moreover, how interdisciplinary geriatric teams function in practice will be discussed.

Study-unit Aims:

- To familiarise students to the roles of different health care professionals working with older persons.
- To assist students in distinguishing between different models of geriatric health care teams.
- To convey appreciation of how interdisciplinary geriatric teams can work effectively in practice.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- List the health care professionals working in geriatric teams and describe their role.
- Compare between different models of geriatric health care teams and how they can be applied in practice.
- Describe the characteristics that make up effective team functioning.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to analyze the contribution of health care professionals, through a description of their role, historical background and an evaluation of at least 2 profession-led programmes that have contributed to older persons' heath outcomes through a computer-based presentation.
