DESCRIPTION | In this study-unit students will be taught how to read and think critically. They will also learn how to structure their research projects, how to write and manage their notes, and how to cite their sources. In a second stage, they will be trained more intensively in essay writing, with a specific focus on writing academic essays in the field of the Humanities. Study-unit Aims - To teach students how to read and think critically; - To teach students how to manage the data which they collect; - To train students how to write academic essays in the field of the Humanities. Learning Outcomes 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Approach academic publications with a critical and open mind; - Develop a consistent and reliable system of note-taking; - Write up academic essays and according to the established academic rules in the field of the Humanities. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Apply the methods of research learnt in this study-unit to other areas of study, as well as to different life situations; - Manage the collection of data and to present it in an orderly manner; - Write essays, papers, articles, etc. in a critical manner.
