DESCRIPTION This study-unit offers an introduction to contemporary Israeli and/or Jewish media through the reading of select passages from newspapers, magazines, internet websites, and other texts in Modern Hebrew. The study-unit will therefore expose students to some of the most widespread forms or genres of writing in Modern Hebrew, while also serving to enrich further the students' grasp of grammar, vocabulary, phraseology, and syntax.

Study-unit Aims:

The aims of the study-unit are:
1. to train students to read and translate contemporary media texts written in Modern Hebrew;
2. to enrich students' grasp of Modern Hebrew grammar, vocabulary, phraseology, and syntax;
3. to expose students to the format and genre characteristics typical of contemporary Israeli and/or Jewish media texts.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

1. read, translate, and analyze contemporary media texts written in Modern Hebrew;
2. describe the grammar, vocabulary, phraseology, and syntax of Modern Hebrew as it appears in contemporary media texts;
3. apply knowledge of Modern Hebrew grammar and syntax to access a wide variety of media texts.

2. Skills
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

1. read newspapers, magazines, internet websites, and other media texts in Modern Hebrew, thus gaining a unique perspective on Israeli and/or Jewish views on a wide range of topics and issues.
