Study-unit Aims

The study-unit aims to explain Gozo’s human, economic and cultural development during mediaeval times. Although Gozo generally shared with Malta the fate of the Central Mediterranean archipelago, in spite of its minuscule territorial extension, it has its own tale to narrate, surprisingly different at times from that of the larger island, even at times at variance with it.

Learning Outcomes

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

At the end of the study-unit the students will be aware of the different realities of life on Gozo throughout its various vicissitudes during mediaeval times, under successive dominations from Byzantine times to the early years of the Order’s rule.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit, students will have improved their ability to interpret events and the way of life in Gozo during mediaeval times based on written sources and visits to places of Students will find such skills useful for their career improvement and for life in general.
