DESCRIPTION Certain conditions, physical disadvantages,and intellectual limitations often create situations which inhibit an individual from integrating fully in society and also can be a barrier to tap fully the information sources available in our knowledge society, to make it possible for them to enjoy equal opportunities irrespective of their condition or situation.

This study-unit aims to understand the various categories of special needs library users; understand their strengths and weakness and in so doing identify ways to facilitate their level of accessibility through the provision ,availability and accessibility of special library services.

Study-unit Aims:

- Provide a clear picture of the spectrum of library Services available for users with special needs;
- Help students match the right library services with the respective users with special needs;
- Help students identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the different categories of users with special needs.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Identify, the categories of library users with Special Needs;
- Have an in-depth knowledge of the types of services available;
- Identify ways of improving these services.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Understand and provide quality service to special needs users;
- Be creative in his/her approach to service provision;
- Adapt to the Special Needs cases as required.
