DESCRIPTION Management information systems is used in the management and decision making processes of many organizations and in a number of contexts. This course will outline the importance of different applications including:

- decision support systems;
- resource and people management applications;
- project management and database retrieval application.

Particular reference will be made to Management information systems in the Logistics and Transportation sector/s.

Study-Unit Aims:

This study-unit aims to highlight the development of Management Information Systems and their applicability to Organisations working within the Transport and Logistics sphere. Apart from the use and applicability of MIS, this study-unit aims at clarifying the distinction between MIS and other forms of Information Technologies that serve different purposes.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to Identify different kinds of MIS, and understand the kinds of applications that could help the management of an organization at different levels, and for different purposes.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to recognise the right kind of tool, structure or database required for different purposes by management and decision makers in different sectors.
