DESCRIPTION This study-unit is designed the develop the students' knowledge, attitude and skills when caring for sick newborns requiring intensive care. It combines the theoretical aspects of such care with clinical experience under the supervision of neonatal staff in the NICU setting.

Study-unit Aims:

This study-unit aims to:
- Develop the students' application of theoretical knowledge into clinical practice in an NICU setting;
- Encourage students' to explore real case scenarios and critically discuss the management of care of selected conditions in newborns.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Demonstrate the understanding of theoretical knowledge and be able to transfer such knowledge into intensive neonatal clinical practice;
- Demonstrate an awareness of routine clinical practice in NICU as in preparations needed for a new admission on the unit.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Demonstrate safe practice of clinical skills practiced on an NICU setting under supervision;
- Demonstrate good observational skills during clinical practice and be able to critically discuss the care observed.
