DESCRIPTION MSE3104 is an online study-unit aimed at anyone with an interest in Adult Education, with a particular focus on Environmental Education, and Education for Sustainable Development. It explores the central issues and concerns of Adult Environmental Education, and its emancipatory potential.

Study-unit Aims:

The aim of MSE3104 is to discuss the present state of environmental adult education, its major difficulties and shortcomings, and to develop the basic skills for students to engage effectively in the process of raising environmental awareness and promoting environmentally supportive action in an adult, youth and community setting in an adult, youth and community setting.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

a) Consider the fundamentals of Environmental Education and Adult Education;
b) Critically analyse the relationship between ecology and the economy;
c) Consider both local and global perspectives to get a better understanding of the issues involved.

2. Skills:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

a) Engage in autobiographical reflection as a lens for students to learn about themselves;
b) Explore their assumptions;
c) Engage in the process of critical reflection.
