DESCRIPTION A repertoire of piano music by composers of different periods and styles will be analysed and studied. Attention will be given to different aspects of performing such as technique, style and public presentation. particular attention will be given to performance in public. Lectures will be given on an individual basis and in groups, as master classes.

Study-unit Aims:

Repertoire will be chosen individually for students according to their individual abilities as performers. The pieces chosen will first be analysed from the structural, historical and performance-history aspects. Aspects from the analysis will then be incorporated into the students' performance. Particular attention will be given to the technique of performing in public.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:
By the end of the study-unit the student will know what preparation for a solo piano recital entails, in its artistic and logistic aspects.

2. Skills:
By the end of the study-unit the student will master the skill of choosing interesting and effective recital programmes and preparing for such programmes in a limited period of time.

3. Competence:
The student will be able to construct recital programmes according to defined criteria and present such programmes to a concert audience.

4. Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the study-unit the student will be able to perform a full-length piano recital in a concert venue to a concert audience.

B.Bartok, Mikrokosmos (Boosey and Hawkes)
Other piano works by 19th and 20th-century composers, as advised during the study-unit.

The texts by Bach are available at the Library. However, students are requested to have their own copies.
