DESCRIPTION | This study-unit offers students the opportunity to expand professional nursing roles, utilising critical decision making processes' and theory based nursing practice. Encounters with professional nurses and managers will be organised to create meaningful discussions, explore roles, stressors and managing challenging situations. The interactive classroom environment engages students in critical reflection and clinical nursing judgment. The study-unit content and activities focus on professional roles, values and responsibilities for practice in a dynamic health care scenario. Study-Unit Aims: The aim of this study-unit is to provide students with an understanding of skills and concepts required for their career development as professional nurses. It also aims to help students develop a clear understanding of what makes a profession and what constitutes professional competence and behavior. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Identify ways for future professional development; - Develop awareness about integrative health care; - Demonstrate the ability to deliver a presentation; - Develop an understanding of skills and concepts to ensure healthy interprofessional relationships; - List statutory bodies and understand their role; - Establish and maintain professional boundaries. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Evaluate his/her interpersonal work ethic; - Work effectively and efficiently within the health care team, and be able to manage difficult situations; - Develop competency at work; - Reflect on and identify his/her coping skills; - Prepare well for an interview.
