DESCRIPTION The study unit will cover thein the following areas:

- Cardiovascular Diseases, the associated factors and investigations;
- Acute Coronary Syndrome;
- Heart failure;
- Cardio-protective drug therapies Haemodynamic monitoring;
- Pacing the Heart;
- Cardiac cathetirization;
- Cardiac rehabilitation.

Study-Unit Aims:

Develop a high level of knowledge and understanding of cardiology and the nursing management of cardiovascular diseases. Develop skills in the assessment and management of patients with established cardiovascular disease

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Understand the aetiology, epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, clinical features, investigations and nursing management of the cardiovascular patient;
- Understand the lifestyle and other risk factors for cardiovascular disease in detail;
- Know the European guidelines for cardiovascular disease management;
- Gain knowledge about the technology used in cardiovascular management;
- Gain knowledge in managing cardiovascular patients, including identification of risks and change in clinical decision processes.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Plan and execute competently a comprehensive cardiovascular nursing plan comprising of problem identification, decision processes and monitoring of outcomes.
- Employ the evidence base theory to clinical nursing practice.
