TITLE Practicum and Seminar

UM LEVEL 01 - Year 1 in Modular Undergraduate Course

MQF LEVEL 5

ECTS CREDITS 2

DEPARTMENT Occupational Therapy

DESCRIPTION This initial fieldwork placement is an opportunity for the students to attain first hand contact with the various aspects of clinical work. They will have the opportunity to observe a broad spectrum of conditions and various treatment programmes. Through the pertinent guidance of a clinical supervisor, they will be able to experience the holistic implications of the clients's conditions and relate this to the domain of occupational therapy.

The study-unit will take the form of not more than a 2-day allocation to a clinical area per week for a semester. This will be followed by a written assessment providing the student with the opportunity to start applying basic theoretical principles in order to frame clinical observations and impressions of practice through an organising professional and academic lens.

The study-unit will also include a number of classroom seminars which will give students the impetus to undertake self and peer evaluations under the guidance of their clinical tutor. Such seminars will be carried out concurrently with the clinical placement and will give students the opportunity to clarify issues related to clinical practice experience.
