DESCRIPTION The study-unit will take into account the Employment & Industrial Relations Act and Subsidiary Legislation, with particular emphasis on the employer-employee relationship, employee rights (incl. discrimination and harassment) disciplinary processes (incl. dismissal & Industrial Tribunal) and industrial relations. The emphasis will be on the practical application of the law in the context of the students' eventual occupation in areas that will require them to take into account the elements of law discussed.

Study-unit Aims:

Introduce students to the general principles of employment law as applicable to their future duties as business professionals.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to interpret the essential elements of employment law with which they will eventually be concerned. On finalisation of their studies, students will be in a position to give preliminary advice to stakeholders in their eventual occupation as to the applicable parameters of the law and to identify areas where specialist advice should be taken.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to identify potential legal issues and discuss possible situations.
