| DESCRIPTION | The study-unit will explore the basics of contemporary dance techniques, with emphasis on Cunningham and Limon based exercises. The study-unit will introduce the use of floor work in the first few sessions and will move up to release-based work as the course progresses. Students will also be introduced to contact based work, including an introduction to contact improvisation, and lifts. Towards the end of the study-unit students will also be encouraged to create their own movement material as part of a class-choreography. Learning Objectives: • To introduce students to the basics of contemporary dance techniques; • To enhance the awareness of one’s body when moving in space and with others; • To develop an understanding of the artistic elements behind contemporary dance. Assessment: In keeping with the spirit of the Degree Plus, there is no formal assessment associated with the unit. A certificate of attendance and of satisfactory completion of the unit will be provided at the end of the semester. Unit Material: Not applicable |
