DESCRIPTION This Unit serves as a platform to explore and identify the links between the world of politics, the sociological and psychological fabric of contemporary society and the array of ethical principles in public life. Through a transdisciplinary approach, this unit helps students to understand the implications of political ethics which is defined as the practice of making moral judgments about social/cultural developments and political action. It is intended to expose students to the multi-faceted features of the social sciences.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:
By the end of the Unit the student will be able to:

- describe the ethical principles underlying political choices and the moral dilemmas inherent;
- analyze how social developments and political actions affect human dignity and the common good;
- appraise the ethical implications of policy choices;
- reflect on a portfolio of case studies about standards of conduct in Maltese public life within a globalized scenario.

2. Skills:
By the end of the Unit the student will be able to:

- evaluate political actions;
- assess the sociological fabric of Maltese society;
- apply the principles of good governance and ethical behaviour;
- engage in debate and self-reflexivity.
