Global Entrepreneurship Congress 2012 in Liverpool, United Kingdom

GEC2012

The Edward de Bono Institute Director Dr Leonie Baldacchino joined delegates from 123 countries at the Global Entrepreneurship Congress (GEC), which was held in Liverpool, United Kingdom in March 2012. Nearly 3,000 delegates converged on the thriving startup city hub, exploring innovative approaches to helping entrepreneurs start and scale new businesses.

The Global Entrepreneurship Congress boasted an array of high profile entrepreneurs, including Sir Richard Branson (Founder and Chairman of Virgin Group), Lord Michael Heseltine (former UK Cabinet Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, Founder and Chairman of Haymarket Group), Sir Terry Leahy (former CEO of Tesco) and Deborah Leary (President of the British Association of Women Entrepreneurs), all of whom shared insights and experiences from their entrepreneurial journeys with the 3,000-strong audience at the Liverpool Echo Arena on the first day of the event.  On the second and third day of the Congress, Ms. Baldacchino joined GEW hosts from 123 participating countries to celebrate best practice in promoting entrepreneurship and to share ideas for advancing the GEW campaign in 2012 and beyond.

Following two days of Executive Sessions run by the Kauffman Foundation for the international guests, the event as a whole culminated in a spectacular gala dinner in Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral which provided a fitting climax to what was an exceptional event.
