• To prepare students who wish to learn an instrument.

Description:

This ten-week study-unit is intended for beginners who wish to learn the basic theory of music, and for students who already have basic knowledge of music theory and wish to improve their skills. The study-unit also offers practice in aural (ear) training, a requisite for students who want to read music fluently to become proficient musicians. The ultimate aim of the study-unit is to serve as a foundation for the student who wishes to start learning a musical instrument of his/her choice.

Delivery of lessons will combine a theoretical/practical approach with easy-to-understand explanations of the basic concepts, and will involve participation by the students in aural training exercises that are intended to make the music lessons more enjoyable. This is a unit offered at basic level, and serves as a follow-up study-unit to Music Theory 1.

Assessment:

In keeping with the spirit of Degree Plus, there is no formal assessment associated with the unit. Students will be assigned easy homework tasks. A certificate of attendance and of satisfactory completion of the unit will be provided at the end of the semester.
