TITLE Theatre and Performance

DESCRIPTION This study-unit aims to give a basic knowledge of theatre and performance. Students will learn how to communicate effectively through physical, aural, visual and other creative forms of expression. Throughout the sessions a collaboratively atmosphere will be encouraged. The devising method will be the approach used to generate material during workshops. Basic and brief theoretical concepts are also explored to give students an insight of theatre and performance as an art form separate from daily life. This practice will lead to a demonstration/performance at the end of the study-unity.

Learning Objectives:

• To introduce students to the basics of theatre and performance techniques;
• To develop awareness of the body in space;
• To generate a collaborative attitude;
• To explore theatre as an art form.


In keeping with the spirit of the Degree Plus, there will be no formal assessment associated with this study-unit. A certificate of attendance and of satisfactory completion of the unit will be provided at the end of the semester.

ADDITIONAL NOTES This unit may not be offered if there are an insufficient number of applicants.
