'Fight like a Knight!'
Sunday 26 October
from 1400hrs to 1600hrs
In collaboration with the Malta Historical Fencing Association (MHFA), the Department of History and the Malta University Historical Society (MUHS) invite the public to join them for a practical demonstration of the sword-fighting and martial art techniques of the period of the Knights of Malta. Experts in the field will describe various sword models and related fighting techniques and give demonstrations of these. The public will also have the opportunity to handle carefully-crafted models of these weapons. This is an opportunity not to be missed where history will come to life and you too will have the chance to fight like a Knight.

'The Taste of the Past'
Tuesday 28 October
from 1000hrs to 1200hrs
The Department of History and the Malta University Historical Society (MUHS) invite secondary school pupils to flavour the taste of the past. Mr Liam Gauci, a recent graduate of the Department and now Curator of the Malta Maritime Museum will guide students into the preparation of some authentic eighteenth-century recipes. Participants will satisfy their own appetites by eating the dishes prepared by themselves. History is about studying people in time and across time; an understanding of food is one of the best windows onto these past worlds. But history is also about today, about how studying history can prepare you for exciting careers. Come along for a taste of the past, as well as a taste of the present.
