Law and Lawyers: What is It All About?
What is law? Is it all about Judges, Trials by Jury and Court Room Drama? It is way much more than that! Just think: every single act you take is regulated by law. Laws influence our daily lives, what we eat, where we go, what we do. No wonder so many students each year around the world opt to study law. The lecture will delve into how law is made, what law all about, which are the career opportunities law students have in the various legal streams that have evolved over time. The lecture is an interesting journey in exploring the Rule of Law.

This session will be held on Tuesday 28 October at 1000hrs.

ELSA Malta's Political Advertising and Freedom of Expression Moot Court Competition

In order to provide prospective University students with an idea on what practising law in a court room entails, ELSA together with the University of Malta have collaborated to draw up a fictitious case. The facts of such case will be debated and battled by teams of law students in front of an impartial judge.

The teams of law students will be presented with a fictitious case on the political advertising memorial where a newly formed political path advocating student rights has been established and aspires to be afforded publicity to its beliefs, proposals and activities. Each team will battle the Preliminary rounds and, the best two teams will go on to the Final rounds during this year's Discover University on 29 October 2014.

This exciting competition is one not to be missed. The case is related to Media Law and Freedom of Expression, an exciting and modern sphere of law.

This session will be held on Wednesday 29 October at 1200hrs.
