Your main expenses to study at the University of Malta will be enrolment or tuition fees and living expenses.
Enrolment or tuition fees cover the cost of education and research. Wherever possible, up-to-date fees are provided for each programme, including fees that students pay when they are granted an extension of studies.

A note to all students
The duration of a part-time Doctoral degree at the University varies between 12 and 16 semesters. Reference is to be made to Regulation 20 of Legal Notice 293 of 2008 as amended by Legal Notice 117 of 2009.
Students reading for a full-time or part-time Doctoral Degree at the UM and who are granted an extension of studies shall pay an annual fee for each academic year of EUR 600.
In addition, science-based doctoral studies may require bench fees. These cover the cost of consumable materials and facilities used during research projects and are established on a case by case basis. Additional information is available in the University of Malta Bench fees Guidelines.

The University of Malta seeks to attract top quality students from countries outside the European Union/EEA and is offering tuition fee waivers to most deserving students. Non-EU/EEA applicants who have been accepted unconditionally to read for a Ph.D. on full-time or part-time basis are encouraged to apply.
From time to time, research entities within the University of Malta publish calls for funded opportunities as part of research programmes, including scholarships for doctoral research. Funded studentships on such programmes offer the chance to study as part of a cohort of researchers.
The Doctoral School through the Research, Innovation & Development Trust (RIDT) of the University of Malta. are offering an overseas conference grant which may cover 75% of the travel costs incurred by UM doctoral students who are presenting a paper or a poster at a conference abroad
The Government of Malta offers scholarships to fund tertiary studies, even at doctoral level (EQF level 8). Announcements and details about these scholarship schemes are issued periodically. It is important to go through individual calls to ensure that you are eligible.
