DESCRIPTION This study-unit introduces students to issues related to critical literacy in art teaching, focusing on an issues-based approach to art education and contemporary issues like multiculturalism and interdisciplinarity. Students learn how to balance the teaching of artistic skills with the teaching of other aspects related to the visual arts in contemporary society, from social issues to critical and contextual aspects.

Learning outcomes:

- Students learn about critical and contextual aspects of art education: art criticism, art history, aesthetics, multicultural issues.
- Students create lesson plans and personal art-work in relation to the issues discussed in class.

ADDITIONAL NOTES Range of Acceptable Students:

Offered to B.Ed (Hons) Art students.

A Pass at Advanced Level at Grade C or better in Art or equivalent from a foreign university.

Only 10 students will be registered for this study-unit including B. Ed. Art students.
