DEPARTMENT Education Studies

DESCRIPTION This study-unit explores different means by which educators can assess the effectiveness of their teaching. The unit discusses different forms of assessment (such as observing behaviour, academic work, attitude and relationships within the school environment) and analyses different instruments that will prove that the interaction between the educators and the students was successful and that learning has taken place. This is done in light of the Learning Outcomes Framework that will be in place by the time this cohort of students has finished the unit.

Study-Unit Aims:

The study-unit aims at providing prospective Ethics teachers with the necessary knowledge and skills to reflect upon the best ways and means to assess Ethics in the classroom. The unit also aims at providing teachers with the tools, experiences and support in order to be able to analyze and reflect upon the Learning Outcomes as identified in the Learning Outcomes Framework. This would lead course participants to be innovative and creative when exploring the best ways in which to assess the said outcomes.

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Identify different assessment methods that are appropriate for assessing the Learning Outcomes for Ethics;
- Analyze the assessment methods in order to determine which modes of assessment are most reliable and valid;
- Develop assessment criteria that would ensure the validity and reliability of the assessment method.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Design assessment methods, such as test papers, presentations, and so on, that would reflect the Learning Outcomes;
- Identify the validity and reliability of the assessment criteria;
