The 6th Intercultural Pragmatics and Communication conference will be hosting a special interest panel on Multimodal variations of identity construction: theory, practice, pedagogy, organised by Svetlana Kurteš (University of Portsmouth) and Monika Kopytowska (University of Łódź). The panel will be held under the auspices of the European Network for Intercultural Education Activities ENIEDA, a collaborative academic network exploring innovative initiatives that promote the values of plurilingualism, democratic citizenship and intercultural cooperation.

The panellists will explore a range of topics clustering around the notion of identity, broadly defined, and how it is constructed, negotiated and communicated in daily interaction, mediated or otherwise. Inter alia, the panel’s intention is to focus on the ideological embeddedness of identity construction and identify its cross-cultural variations, discoursal manifestations, multimodal frameworks and semiotic resources. The presentations will be divided into three thematic clusters, suggesting possible innovative approaches to theory, practice and pedagogy in the area of identity studies in inter- and cross-cultural communicative contexts.
