Social Programme ISAM October 2022
1. Half day tour of Valletta on Wednesday 5th October (morning)
This excursion departs from the Valletta Campus and includes a 3-hour walking tour of Valletta, the capital city of Malta, with a licensed tourist guide. The group will be able to admire the beautiful Baroque facades and learn more about the people who shaped and lived in the main administrative and commercial centre of the Island, which was constructed by the Knights of the Order of St John in the 16th century. Also included is a visit to St John’s Co-Cathedral, which boasts one of the most beautiful church interiors in Europe. No meals are included.

2. Gala Dinner (inc. walking tour of Mdina) on 5th October 2022.
The group will enjoy an evening walking tour of Mdina with a licensed guide, enjoying the pleasant and relaxing atmosphere offered by the picturesque streets of the old capital city of Malta. A stop at the fortification walls also offers an impressive view of the surrounding countryside and the nearby parish Church of Mosta, known as ir-Rotunda for its circular shape. The walk will end with a dinner. Kindly note that transport back will be provided to hotels on the Conference list only.
3. Prehistory Half day tour on Thursday 6th October 2022.
This excursion departs from the Valletta campus at 08:30hrs. Accompanied by a licensed tourist guide, the group will drive to the prehistoric sites of Hagar Qim and Mnajdra (entrance fee included). These UNESCO World Heritage Sites offer an amazing glimpse into the megalithic structures that characterize Malta’s Neolithic period, as well as captivating views of the surrounding landscape. The group will then visit nearby Wied iz-Zurrieq, with the possibility of a boat ride to discover the surrounding caves (optional & weather permitting). Transport back to Valletta is included. No meals are being provided.
4. Evening tour of Vittoriosa on Friday 7th October 2022.
This excursion departs from the Valletta Campus at 17:00hrs from the Valletta Campus. The group walks with a licensed tourist guide to the ferry to cross over to Cospicua (weathering permitting). A walking tour of Vittoriosa will follow, with participants enjoying the beautiful scenery of the harbor as well as learning more about this city and its maritime significance. Vittoriosa (or Birgu, as it is better known locally), served as the very first headquarters of the Knights of the Order of St John, when they settled in Malta in the 16th century, before the construction of Valletta. The locality kept its importance throughout later periods, especially during the British period with the use of Fort St Angelo by the Royal Navy and the extensive dockyards which at times employed one out of every five men on the Island. The walking tour will be followed by dinner. Kindly note that transport after dinner will be provided to hotels on the conference list only.
5. Full day Gozo Tour on 8th October 2022.
Price per person: 65 euro
