VS-Games 2014 aims to bring together industry, academia and young people interested in the development of games for serious applications. The conference participants, this year may be in for an interesting time. We are doing our best to ensure, as much a presence of industry (including local ones) as possible, as they will be coming to showcase their serious games.

However we do believe that there is a lot of potential in the young people who are currently completing their studies in the areas of digital and video games, but who have had little experience in designing and developing games that can be used for education and training. This is why this year we have also planned a 48 hour game-jam session that will be starting on the 9th of September 2014 and will end on Thursday 11th September 2014. This game-jam session is targeted towards groups of young people. Two themes shall be given to the groups, who will start working on the design, storyboards, and a pilot of the game. We are also expecting that this game-jam will also attract conference participants who would be willing to drop in to the game-jam and offer their expert advice.

We are also lining up some excellent keynote speakers and ensuring that the quality of the submissions is high. For this we have joined forces with our international program committee, as well as the steering committee to help us in the review of the academic submissions.

The conference proceedings will be published as part of the IEEE conference proceedings, and selected papers will also be published in Journal Special Editions.

We have also prepared quite an intense social program that is aimed, both at the conference participants as well as their accompanying guests, in such a way that everyone has something interesting to do on our beautiful small island.

On behalf of the local organising committee we really hope this year's VS-Games shall prove to be as satisfactory, fruitful and successful as in previous years and we wish you a wonderful stay with us here in Malta!
