Dr. Francis Debono completed his B.A. (Hons) Accountancy in 1993 and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education the year after that. After a number of years in professional accounting practice he moved into teaching and eventually joined the Department of Accountancy at the University of Malta in 2003. He completed his Ph.D. in Management Accounting at the University of Southampton in 2014.

His teaching and research areas are cost and management accounting, in particular the application of management accounting principles in small and medium enterprises. He is also interested in the role that management accounting information plays in business decision-making processes.
