DESCRIPTION This study-unit combines theory and applied training. It provides students with practical models for negotiating and resolving disputes among parties with differing objectives and desires. It trains students to adopt a mind-set that is sensitive to people diversity in a variety of work settings. Students will learn about system dynamics, intricacy of issues, and complexity of actors. They will learn how to develop reflective practice and how to reach outcomes through the use of collaborative processes.

Study-Unit Aims:

- To provide an understanding of the root causes and dynamics of conflict;
- To enhance effective negotiations and conflict management solutions by expanding the students' repertoire of concepts, skills, and practices;
- To gain knowledge on how to resolve disputes through reasoned negotiation.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Understand how to change a lose-lose situation into a win-win relationship;
- Appreciate how to gain a better understanding of the other person's needs in negotiations;
- Know how to get genuine commitment by setting mutually beneficial goals.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Formulate a preferred negotiating style and have more confidence where and when to use it;
- Demonstrate greater flexibility in choosing the best negotiating strategy for each particular context;
- Plan and effectively implement a communications strategies based on various situations.
