About us

Physiotherapy is an evidence-based autonomous profession that strives to develop, maintain and restore people’s maximum movement and functional ability.

It can help people at any stage of life, when movement and function are threatened by ageing, injury, diseases, disorders, conditions or environmental factors.  Physiotherapists are the experts of human movement who help people improve and sustain wellbeing within the various health spheres that include health promotion, injury and impairment prevention, treatment, habilitation and rehabilitation.

  • Using competencies embedded in human and physical science, physiotherapists would be able to:
  • Assess, diagnose and treat injuries and conditions that affect people in all ages and social groups.
  • Assist a person to prevent injury in the workplace or on the sports field.
  • Determine the outcomes of any interventions or treatments
  • Promote healthier lifestyles for all
  • Promote public health through research and education
  • Use the latest technology to maximise the effects of interventions and services.

The BSc. (Hons) programme in Physiotherapy allows the graduate the eligibility to apply for registration with the Council for Professions Complementary to Medicine in Malta. To ensure quality programmes the Department of Physiotherapy follows the education guidelines of the World Confederation for Physical Therapy, and it has an effective working relationship with the Malta Association of Physiotherapists, while being sensitive to local and international developments in the profession.
